The AMAS 2021 Online Seminar Series: August Seminar
The AMAS 2021 Online Seminar Series
A global pandemic forced the cancellation of the traditional AMAS symposia in 2021. In lieu of an in-person symposia, AMAS is hosting a bimonthly seminar series throughout the year from invited speakers on topics of interest.
August Seminar
Date: Wednesday the 11th August 2021
Time: 4 pm AEST / 2 pm AWST

Title: Characterizing minor secondary phases in microstructures in metallurgical alloys.
Presenter: Håkon Wiik Ånes, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Norwegian University of Science and Technology
Characterizing minor secondary phases in microstructures, like dispersoid or intermetallic particles, is important in metallurgical alloy and process development. In the SEM, their size distribution and location in the microstructure can be studied by backscatter electron imaging. Grains’ sizes and orientation, on the other hand, are usually studied using electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), and the two types of datasets are in general not analysed in an integrated manner. This presentation will describe a way to merge EBSD data and backscatter electron images in order to study grains and particles, smaller than the EBSD spatial resolution, in the same data set, using image registration.
