AMMS recognises outstanding contributions to the Australian microscopy community through Service awards.

Please email nominations to the AMMS Secretary. Financial members of the society, other than serving members of the National Executive and Service Awards Committee shall be eligible for nomination for a Service Award by at least two other financial members. The service awards application deadline is COB Friday 29th November 2024.

Service Awards

The Distinguished Service Award

The organisation's highest award for services and contributions.

Overview

This award recognize the significant role and contribution a member of the society has had on the microscopy community through the course of their membership. The nominee must be nominated by two referees

Eligibility

  • Nominees must be members of the society.
  • Nominees cannot be member of the National Executive and Awards Committees

Award Criteria

  • Outstanding* membership for a minimum of ten years of formal committees of the society, here defined to include: state representation, formally affiliated state society and national committee membership of a national subgroup of the society.
  • Outstanding contribution of a minimum of ten years to the organisation and/or conduct of society activities including conferences and meetings.
  • Outstanding contributions and service for a minimum of ten years to the Australian microscopy community and/or society. Any combination of the above for a minimum of ten years.

* “OUTSTANDING” IS HERE CONSIDERED TO REPRESENT ACTIVITY BEYOND THE USUAL OR NORMAL RESPONSIBILITY OF AN OFFICE OR POSITION AND WILL BE JUDGED AT THE  DISCRETION OF THE AMMS AWARDS COMMITTEE.

Life Membership Of The Society

Recognition of services provided to the society over a prolonged period.

Overview

This award recognize the significant role and contribution a member of the society has had over twenty years or more on the life of the society. The nominee must be nominated by two referees

Eligibility

  • Nominees must be members of the society.
  • Nominees cannot be member of the National Executive and Awards Committees

Award Criteria

  • Outstanding* membership for a minimum of twenty years of formal committees of the society, here defined to include: state representation, formally affiliated state society and national committee membership of a national subgroup of the society.
  • Outstanding contribution of a minimum of twenty years to the organisation and/or conduct of society activities including conferences and meetings.
  • Outstanding contributions and service for a minimum of twenty years to the Australian microscopy community and/or society.
  • Any combination of the above for a minimum of twenty years.

The award recognises 10 consecutive years of AMMS membership

The award recognises 10 consecutive years of AMMS membership

 Eligibility:

  1. Nominees must be financial members of the society at the time of the award and in the past 10 years consecutively.
  2. Nominees must carry out their occupation in major part in Australia.

Fellowship of the Australian Microscopy and Microanalysis Society

The fellowship recognises the prominent role that a member of the society has had and continue to have over the past 5 years

Overview

The fellowship recognises the prominent role that a member of the society has had and continue to have over the past 5 years, at the time of award, in the microscopy community in Australia, whether in research or society life. Election will be conducted every two years and new fellows will be announce at the ACMM conference.

Eligibility

  • Nominees must be members of the society.
  • Nominees must carry out their occupation in major part in Australia.

Award Criteria

  • Scientific and/or society achievements
  • National and/or international recognition
  • Leadership and/or promotion of the society and its activity
  • Nominees must be nominated by a current fellow and elected at a special fellowship meeting organised by the award committee. In the first year of existence the fellows will be nominated and elected by the award committee.

  • Names of two of the nominators
  • A short statement of the reason for which the nomination was made

Obligation of the Fellows

  • Uphold the values of the society. Fellowship can be removed if the Fellow breaches any of the values/rules of AMMS
